Basics of Motivational Interviewing

This training has been approved to satisfy 2 clock hours for CASAC renewal requirements and CPP/CPS initial/renewal credentialing requirements. All attendees will receive a certification of completion after satisfying the course quiz (must pass 8 out 10) and completion of training evaluation.

Goals of the training

-For counselors/therapists etc. to learn an efficient way to get clients to increase their motivation to change.

-To become better listeners, especially when taking complex cases.

-To learn strategies to assess and strengthen an individual’s motivation to take action

-To shift from being a helping to a coach when working with clients

-To improve client engagement, help to resolve client ambivalence, and promote client activation in activities that lead to better life outcomes

  • Demonstrate understanding of the 5 principles of motivational interviewing
  • Demonstrate skill with OARS
